When living and studying in Groningen (NL) in the 1980s and 90s for my BA degree, I became obsessed with the Orphism Movement of the early 20th century and especially the work of Franz Kupka.

The stained glass in Coventry Cathedral overwhelms me on every visit, its musicality is undeniable and profound. This painting "Cathedral" was one of many I created during my time as their Artist in Residence in 2012. Revisiting my archives and finding this old "friend", I am transported back to Groningen, Kupka and that incredible time around the 50th Jubilee in Coventry. The booming organ, choirs rehearsing and that huge huge kaleidoscope space with Sutherland's massive Christ gazing down so exquisite and serene.
