A recently concluded oil, part of a series based around rivers and in particular chalk streams of England. This painting is one of those - along with my 'River Kennet'- that I love. These paintings just grow from feelings and tuning in to some sort of spiritual "channel" . I question not the reason or source, I just literally 'go with the flow" and sometimes when I feel extraordinarily fortunate, a painting emerges like this one. It does something to my soul and is deeply rewarding.

Here the Kingfisher zips down stream like an apparition leaving only a razorcut turquoise memory.

Update June 2025...

Halcyon has just sold to a client whose cottage looks out over a millpond in Yorkshire where he watches Kingfishers "darting like turquoise razors". Wonderfully evocative!
